second show

i swear there was a vampire in the audience at the cafe where melodia played last night.

he was about seven feet tall with an enormous, long head speckled with brown spots, no eyebrows, completely bald, with sunken huge eyes. his hands were about twice as big as any normal person's with very long, sharp fingernails, and his hands were CURLED over the top of an antique cane as he sat all alone at a table with a glass of red wine!

the rest of the audience was made up of little groups of old women with garish makeup who came up to us afterwards saying things like, "my dears, that was just lovely!" and a few hip young musician types, as well as typical beach-goers. such a funny audience that i couldn't keep a straight face while playing, and even laughed during some of the songs whenever i glanced up and saw that sea of mixed faces all riveted on me. they were a very polite crowd, listening intently, nobody talking. we did an all instrumental set this time.

after the show we felt like we were walking on clouds so we got ice cream cones and walked along the beach towards an amazing sunset, then drove home in mom's minivan, caitlin behind the wheel and me with my bare feet sticking out the window. the wind was so sweet and cool!

we're staying in our parents' house while they're gone on holiday to california and it feels so good to have space and solitude.

i'll head back out to the city tomorrow morning.

we busked on the pier at white rock today and RAKED IN the cash so i think we can conclude that busking at beaches can turn out all right as long as we pick the right spot. it can't be the type of beach where people are only jogging by with headphones on and no wallets in the pockets of their bikinis or sweat pants....

the spot today was ideal because there were shops all along the boardwalk and people stroll down the pier after their lunch or shopping trips.

Thanks for the laugh! Sounds like a vampire to me. Acually, he sounds kinda terrifying. The red wine just tipped the hat.

Hello

Hi Scotia! Your life is so exciting these days! I just wanted to thank you for adding me to Meoldia's and your lists. Don't think I didn't notice. I always look forward to your picturesque entries. You two troubadours live a most beautiful existence. As you wrote before so accurately: Music is the most wonderful thing in the world .

Unfortunately, I am unable to access the downloads at Melodia's website. I don't know why; computers are a mystery to me. But if your music is half as poetic as your writing, I doubt not that it's excellent. The instrumentation sure is unique.

So Nosferatu has visited one of your concerts. How Romantic! Vampires enjoy music, as it is infinite like them. Your playing probably gave him fond memories of some fair gypsy girl he sucked, years & years ago. But you & your sister must be more careful. Stay away from the beaches & start busking in the churches, instead.

Re: Hello

hello! i'm sorry about our website - we've neglected it because we don't know anything about computers, and we have to wait for our dad to come back from his holiday to help us fix it up. we know that the music links aren't working at the moment.
if you want to hear a small selection of our songs you can go to the newmusiccanada website and type in "melodia." you can also hear us on "myspace."
thanks for you compliments, but my writing on livejournal is far from "poetic"!! i don't put much into it, it's just a way for me of keeping in touch with a few people. most of my energy is employed elsewhere.
and thanks for the advice on protecting myself from vampires.
